Code of Conduct

Empirical Code of Conduct

Gaming culture, much like society, is unfortunately plagued by racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and other systemic prejudices. Rhetoric reinforcing these systems of oppression has often been normalized within the overall culture. In Empirical, we believe strongly in building an inclusive and diverse community where we strive to build each other up, not tear each other down. We do not pretend to be immune to the problems we see in the greater gaming community, but we are committed to being part of the solution. This Code of Conduct is intended to be a basis upon which we build an inclusive and safe community where people from all backgrounds, identities, and expressions can thrive.

While you are a part of this guild and community, you represent Empirical in everything you do online and in the real world. Membership in our community is thus seen as official and full acceptance of the terms of this Code of Conduct, to which all members of Empirical are expected to adhere.

Rules and Policies

All Empirical Community Members must adhere to the following rules and policies:

  1. Be respectful of all Community Members.
  2. There is a zero tolerance policy for harassment, toxicity, bullying, name calling, or hate speech.
  3. There is a zero tolerance policy for sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any other kind of offensive language or behavior.

Insensitive Language

Over time, the use of insensitive language has been increasingly normalized in the gaming community. These words and phrases, despite maybe having humorous intentions, are harmful, inappropriate, and are not acceptable behavior in the Empirical Community. Examples include, but are not limited to, pejorative use of words such as “autistic”, “gay”, “retarded”, etc. Jokes about sexual harassment or assault, or casual use of the word “rape” (ie. “that boss mechanic raped us”), is likewise unacceptable.

Violations of Code of Conduct

While we recognize that some language has become ingrained into our vernacular over time, we also recognize the need for change.  If you fail to abide by the code of conduct, leadership will investigate and make a decision that is best for the guild environment, be that a zero tolerance removal or a final warning.
